Texas synagogue hostage crisis: `We will stand against anti-semitism, extremism`

US President Joe Biden has denounced anti-Semitism after several people were taken hostage at a synagogue in the city of Collieville in Dallas and pledged to do everything to stop the “rise of extremism” in the country.

“Let me make it clear to anyone who intends to spread hatred – we will stand against anti-Semitism and extremism in this country. We are the same, and tonight, the men and women of law enforcement do all of us proud ,” Biden said in a White House statement on Sunday.

The US president also noted that law enforcement officers worked collaboratively and fearlessly to rescue the hostages and thanked them for their “tireless work”.

A man held at least four people hostage for more than ten hours at a synagogue in the city of Colleyville on Saturday.

A live stream of the Shabbat Morning Service in the synagogue on Facebook captured audio of a man speaking out loud as the event began. According to law enforcement officials, the hostage-taker demanded the release of Pakistani scientist Afiya Siddiqui, who was convicted of trying to kill US military officers while in custody in Afghanistan. Siddiqui is currently lodged in FMC Carswell, a federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas.

However, a hostage suspect has been executed demanding the release of a Pakistani scientist convicted of trying to kill US military officers while in custody in Afghanistan.

“The suspect is dead,” Collieville Police Chief Michael Miller said during a press conference late Saturday (local time), explaining that Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) rescuers had entered the synagogue in Collieville and All three remaining hostages were rescued, as the Sputnik News Agency reports.
